Piratismin vastainen taistelu jatkuu verkossa TTVK:n ja IFPI:n huitoessa tuulimyllyjä ja netistä jotain ymmärtävien katsellessa sivusta vaivautuneena. Viimeisin väsyttävä törppöily koskee Pirate Bay -sivuston blokkausta, josta jo pari mediaa ovat ehtineet uutisoida, että nyt se laiton lataaminen loppui. Valitettavasti vain missään maassa, jossa tämä blokkaus on toteutettu, sillä ei ole todettu olevan kuin korkeintaan hyvin lyhytaikainen vaikutus palvelun käyttämiseen. Älymystön kannalta tämä blokkailu on vähän tylsä veto, sillä levitämme mm. Atomgrad-albumiamme promootiomielessä Pirate Bayn kautta. Lienee siis tarpeen esitellä nykyisille ja tuleville faneillemme kuinka tämän hyödyttömän eston voi kiertää minuutissa.

Näin helppoa oli ohittaa tämä “tehokas keino puuttua piratismiin”, ja kukin voi tehdä oman päätelmänsä siitä, millaisen “signaalin” tämä kokonaisuus viestii. Jotkut tekijänoikeusjärjestöjen edustajat ovat jo ehtineet iloita, että Pirate Bayn käyttö on laskenut 30 prosenttia Elisa-blokkauksen jälkeen, joka pistää huokaamaan syvään. Kyllä, epäilemättä piratebay.org-osoitteen käyttö onkin pudonnut, mutta mites nuo kaikki muut osoitteet? Tai kymmenet muut tracker-sivustot, jotka ovat Stockmannin herkkuosasto verrattuna Pirate Bayn tarjoamaan Siwaan?

Paras ratkaisu piratismiin puuttumisessa on laillisen kansainvälisen digitaalisen kaupan helpottaminen niin musiikin, elokuvien ja TV-sarjojen saralla, fani- ja asiakassuhteisiin panostaminen ja hyvän PR:n vaaliminen.

English summary: the Finnish copyright advocacy groups have joined the idiotic bandwagon of blocking Pirate Bay and calling it an effective remedy for piracy. We consider this to be deeply silly, and not only because we’ve put our material up on Pirate Bay ourselves for promotional reasons. The only way to fight piracy is to create systems that make it easy to sell music, movies and TV programs digitally with as little lag and friction as possible in international markets, to take care of your fans and customers and to cultivate good PR.

So, things remain to be rather silent for Älymystö, but that doesn’t mean we couldn’t play live in different projects. In this summer I toured as a member of NEGA, a shapeshifter-project founded by Mr. Pilvari Pirtola around 10 years ago. My time is too short to fill you in with all the details, but we played in 2+ Year Anniversary of Servataguse Muusika @ Tallinn, Estonia & 4th Kuucvaals industrial festival @ Lielauce, Latvia. This time NEGA was Mr. Pilvari, Mr. Paalanen & me – and to maximize the live effort, the tour also included solo performances of both NOSFE & TAPHEAD in both locations (for me, one show per event was enough and I decided to be just merrily drunk, enjoy the events and catch the latest news from all my Baltic friends). All in all, it was the best weekend of this summer for me, so a huge thank you for everyone involved.

So, here’s a video from our 22th of July live show at Kuucvaals. The sound quality isn’t perfect, but that will be fixed later on as the whole show will be released as mp3s on a certain web-label. Stay tuned for that.

As some of you might have noticed, things seem to have been relatively silent for Älymystö lately. The reason for that is simple: all of us have been more or less busy with our personal lifes. Especially Mr. Vuorensola, who has been focusing on directing the Iron Sky movie, which is now in production phase, due to be released to theatrical distribution world-wide in early 2012.

However, I managed to steal a couple of days from his time and as a result Älymystö will perform live at 26th of February 2011 in Dog’s Home, Tampere, along with Vilkduja and Oorchach. The show will present you some new goodies along with the more traditional pieces of our live set.

In other news, the 12″-split vinyl release of 19:38:00 has been post-poned until further notice. To tell you the truth we don’t know much more about it either, from our part the material has been ready for release for well over a year now. All inquiries about that matter should be directed to Skithund Records. Regardless of the fate of vinyl release, we are planning to release a CD version of our side of 19:38:00 with some added bonuses somewhere in the future.

Last summer I had a great time at the Tuska metal festival playing theremin on the stage with Enochian Crescent. They liked what they came up with for the song Muistoja Sorkasta and earlier this year they asked me to record it for their new album, NEF.VI.LIM.

The album is now out, theremin and all, and currently on the first place of Finland’s mid-price top-10 list. If you want to check out some quality black metal for Finland, go get it!

As some of you may have heard, I’ve been working on a solo album this year, and I’m happy to say it is now available for enjoyment by humans. The album is called 800 Memories Per Second and it’s a collection of mostly live improvisations recorded over a period of two years or so.

The album should appeal to fans of the more ambient side of Älymystö.
