A couple of weeks back we had another Band Camp practice weekend. For the first time ever we didn’t go to Mr. Haapanen’s home farm in middle of nowhere, but did the deed in a civilized urban area. Well, in Tampere anyway. The weekend was very productive: we got most of our new songs approximately in a shape to be played in front of an audience, so just a bit more honing and we’ll be ready for our new album tour in January.

Oh, speaking about the tour, most of the dates have been confirmed, so there will be more information soon.

Right, that’s another Band Camp done. Tired reporting follows.

First order of business: The master for the split vinyl has now — finally — been handed off to the boys at Skithund Records, and hence we once again broke out the bubbly.

Second order of business: New material! This was a surprisingly productive session and we were able to get a cover song into shape in pretty much the first sitting, and it should be a blast at shows in the future.

We also sunk our teeth into an entirely new Älymystö tune. Herra Haapanen presented us with some new (or is the word “fresh”?) beats, 30 minutes later we’d written and cut the first tracks on bass and guitar, another 10 minutes later Herra Honkonen was done with the lyrics, another hour and we had the chorus written and arranged, and at the end of the evening, the vocals were laid down. This may not sound exceptional, but rest assured, this is not how we usually do this stuff.

Not only that, but the song is really nice FUCKING AWESOME. I know having an attack of fanboyitis on your own material is sort of incestuous, but HOLY HELL YOU GUYS.

SLEEP. IS. WRONG.

Here’s a new band camp video, which – defying the rules of time and space – is actually older than the previous one. This is from last August, when we went to the Finnish countryside to record some new songs.

Älymystö has been quite quiet on the public front lately, with few gigs and major publications. This does not mean that the band is dispersing, not by any means. There is new stuff on the works, with admittedly a kind of a second album argh-gnh behind it. The web page is also going to see new stuff finally during the summer, so stay tuned.

After a too long a pause, here’s a new Älymystö video. Last February we went to have yet another Band Camp weekend in the beautiful Finnish countryside. This time we had our new member, Herra Eskola, with us. This Band Camp was a bit different from the earlier ones. Namely, there was much more shoveling, overalls, shit and hay. Intrigued? One of our band traditions are Band Camps, long weekends spent in Herra Haapanen’s homestead in middle of the beautiful Finnish countryside. We take over the sauna building to play songs, create new material, sauna, eat well, swim, drink and relax. There are several Band Camps planned for the coming summer, during which we will be working on the new album.

Here’s some video goodness from the previous Band Camp, held in last December. The weather was rainy and bleak. It was in the time of the year when there is very little light outside even during the day. The sun is above the horizon for only a few hours, the weather is usually rainy and this year there even wasn’t any snow on the ground. This made the world pitch black during the night, gloomy and unreal during the daytime. A perfect time to hole up in a cozy cabin with friends and instruments, and lose the track of time.
